How a bishop moves
A bishop travels diagonally. It can move one square or many squares, but it cannot jump over pieces.
Because bishops move diagonally, a bishop always stays on the same colour square for the entire game. One bishop controls light squares, and the other controls dark squares.
How to use bishops
Bishops become stronger when diagonals are open. If your own pawns block a bishop, it may feel weak. If the diagonal opens, a bishop can attack from far away.
Remember
- Bishops move only diagonally.
- They cannot jump over pieces.
- A bishop on an open diagonal can be very powerful.
