How a queen moves
A queen can move any number of squares in a straight line: horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
She cannot jump over pieces. Because she is so valuable, beginners should avoid bringing the queen out too early. The board shows the queen moving diagonally first, then straight up the board.
How to use the queen
The queen is strongest when she works with other pieces. A queen attacking alone can be chased around, but a queen supported by a knight, bishop, rook, or king can create serious threats.
Remember
- The queen moves straight or diagonal.
- She is powerful, but also valuable.
- Use the queen to support an attack, not to wander alone.
